Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Services
Greensboro Orthopaedics utilizes the skills of NATABOC Certified and North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners Licensed Athletic Trainers both in the Sports and Rehabilitation Center as well as in the community.

Our Athletic Trainers work as a team with the Physical Therapists to rehabilitate our patients as quickly as possible, restoring them to their desired level of function.

Our Athletic Trainers provide monthly Sports Injury Screening/Assessments to the following area health clubs:
There they evaluate and assess injuries the members may have incurred and make treatment recommendations and physician referrals if needed.
- Our Athletic Trainers provide medical coverage to a variety of community events. In 2008, we supported the following community sporting events:
- Summer Sizzler Mountain Bike Race
- Carolina Cup Criterion Race
- UHC Bi-Centennial Marathon
- Women’s Only 5K
- Flying Frog Adventure Race
- NCAIG Gymastics Nationals
- NC State Games: Mountain bike and criterion races
In 2008, we were proud to continue with our support of the ACC basketball program, as Greensboro hosted another great women’s championship tournament. Along with the women’s ACC basketball tournament, we also assisted with the women’s NCAA regional Championships, also held here in Greensboro.
- While we are not “Official Sponsors”, our Athletic Trainers and Physicians provide support to the teams, their Athletic Trainers, and Physicians during their stay in Greensboro. In 2009, we are looking forward to the Women’s ACC Basketball tournament from March 5th thru 8th as well as the Men's NCAA 1st amd 2nd Round , to be held March 19th and 21st.
Greensboro Orthopaedics and Athletic Training
The largest aspect of our Sports Medicine Services is that of Athletic Training services provided to 3 Area High Schools as well as Oak Ridge Military Academy.
o Debra Ford, MS, LAT, ATC is the Head Athletic Trainer at Grimsley High School. Dr. Kevin Supple is their Team Physician.
o Wendy Elbe, MEd, LAT, ATC is the Head Athletic Trainer at Northwest Guilford High School. Wendy Joined our team on July 14, 2008. She comes to us with 12 years experience as a Head High School Athletic Trainer. Originally from Vermont, she attained her B.S. from Ithaca College in 1996 and her M.Ed. from UVA in 1997, both in Athletic Training. While at Ithaca, she was a 4 year Varsity Track & Field Thrower. Dr. R. Andrew Collins is their Team Physician.
o Bruce Wolfe, MS, LAT, ATC is the Head Athletic Trainer at Western Guilford High School. Dr. Adam Kendall is their Primary Care Physician and Dr. R. Andrew Collins and Dr. Kevin Supple share their role as Team Orthopeadists.
o Bill Griffin, MA, LAT, ATC provides Athletic Training coverage to Oak Ridge Military Academy. Dr. R. Andrew Collins is their Team Physician.
