Dr. Collins is a native of Mount Airy, NC. He received his B.S. Degree with honors from Guilford College, where he played football, and his M.D. Degree with honors from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. Collins served his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopaedic surgery at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Bowman Gray School of Medicine. While completing his residency, Dr. Collins was an assistant team physician for various high schools, Guilford College and Wake Forest University.

Dr. Collins satisfactorily completed a comprehensive Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Atlanta Sports Medicine Clinic in Atlanta, Georgia. While there, he was involved in the care of athletes of all ages and levels of competition. His training emphasized arthroscopic and open knee and shoulder reconstructive procedures. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Collins began his practice with Greensboro Orthopaedic Center in 1991 and has been actively involved in area sports medicine activities. He is a member of several professional organizations.

His non-professional interests include golf, snow skiing and weight training. Dr. Collins is married to the former Denise Anne Peters and has three children, Erin Elizabeth, Audrey Elise and Devin Alexander.
